Context
Franklin was born in Quebec — an interesting geographic detour for a family that had been in New England since the 1600s. His father Samuel was the son of Philip Wood, the Revolution-era ancestor from Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
Franklin married Eliza Barber, an English immigrant, adding fresh English blood to a line that had been American for nearly two centuries by that point.
His son Samuel Franklin Wood settled in Brattleboro, Vermont. Samuel Franklin's daughter Estelle Wood married into the Quinn family in Illinois, eventually producing Ted's mother Judith.
