Ancestry

Ted Barnett's family tree spans 12 generations and at least four countries — Ireland, England, the Netherlands, and colonial America. His direct line includes early Plymouth Colony settlers, men who lived through the American Revolution, and 19th-century Irish immigrants who came to New York and Chicago.

Paternal Line — Barnett

The Barnetts are Irish, from County Cork. Ted's great-great-grandfather J Barnett (b. 1809, Cork) emigrated to the United States, likely during or after the Great Famine. His son N.C.A. Barnett (b. ~1863) settled in New York. Ted's grandfather Theodore S. Barnett (1893–1937) died young at 44, and Ted's father Cornelius Arthur Barnett (b. 1935, Potsdam, NY) was only two when he lost his father.

Ted — Theodore Hayes Barnett — carries his grandfather's first name.

Generation Name Born Died Place

Maternal Line — Quinn

Ted's mother Judith Estelle Quinn (b. 1936, Chicago) came from a Chicago Irish family. Her father John Mathias Quinn (1904–1964) and mother Virginia W. Quinn (née Wood, 1905–1988) were both from Illinois.

The Quinn line traces to Michael Quinn (b. ~1832, Ireland) and Catherine Hussey (b. 1830, Ireland). The Leyden branch connects to Tullig, County Clare.

Hayes Line (paternal grandmother)

Ted's paternal grandmother was Isabel C. Hayes (~1901–1974). Her father Charles L. Hayes (~1861–1929) lived in New York. The Hayes family traces back to Patrick Hays (1821–1872) who emigrated from Ireland, and further to Jeremiah Hayes (1772–1852), also from Ireland — likely born during the period of the American Revolution.

The Colonial American Line — Wood / Jenny

The deepest branch in the tree goes through Ted's maternal grandmother's family (Quinn → Wood) all the way back to Plymouth Colony in the early 1600s.

John Jenny arrived in Plymouth Colony around 1623, making him one of the earliest English settlers in Massachusetts — just three years after the Mayflower landing. His daughter Abigail married Henry Wood, establishing the Wood family line that runs unbroken through 12 generations to Ted.
